The number of businesses that are approved to accept food stamps keeps growing. I am not sure that is such a great thing. In the last five years USDA records show food-stamp benefits have increased from $28.5 billion to $64.7 billion. Now the fast food companies are trying to get in on the action. Right now Federal rules prohibit food stamps from being exchanged for "prepared foods" but that is changing. Five states already are accepting restaurants under the plan and others may change soon. How scary is that? Can you image a large chunk of that sixty billion dollars a year going towards people to buy Taco Bell or KFC? This will just perpetuate the chronic cycle of obesity that will end up causing more illnesses and bankrupting our healthcare system even more (if that is even possible). Wow. Smart plan.
