I always was under the impression that businesses always try to get rid of the middleman in order to increase their profit. Only in healthcare has that never materialized. The managed care companies siphon most of the money that patients pay and yet they are, as the middleman, not only safe but they continue to grow in power. Even better, they are starting to open their own clinics! Some of the phony and fragmented quick care clinics that are trying to get ahead by offering easy access and are run by NPs are now becoming owned by the insurance companies. Talk about a nightmare of conflict of interests and loss of control! Somebody wake me up, please.
